The Policy Matters team brings a wealth of knowledge and legislative policy expertise with a combined 40 years of professional experience working for and in coordination with the, Governor’s Office, Colorado Legislature and local government. Policy Matters provides our clients with the ability to ensure success with a comprehensive advocacy strategy to defend their interests and advance their custom-tailored agenda.
We are an established firm and have worked to build relationships over the past twenty-eight years at the Capitol. With new people entering the political realm daily, Policy Matters’ investment and willingness to walk new legislators and staff through some of the complexities of the state budget and legislative process has proven invaluable. Although laying the groundwork takes a lot of time and effort, the energy is well spent. This is evident as you look at our positive track record as a tenacious and respected lobbying firm. The successful outcomes we’ve been able to achieve also demonstrate the importance of relationship building with policy makers in both the executive and legislative branch, including staff.
Colorado State Budget
Policy Matters has a firm grasp and great history of success in lobbying Colorado’s very complex budget. The Policy Matters team works year-round and attends every Joint Budget Committee (JBC) briefing presented by the JBC staff, and every JBC hearing with testimony from the executive branch cabinet members, who oversee the respective state departments. We also attend each of the quarterly revenue forecasts, which gives us additional face time with the JBC members. Although the briefings and hearings are time consuming, the time spent at the JBC allows us to cultivate relationships with the JBC members, their staff and the cabinet members. The daily interaction with these folks is extremely beneficial to our work.
Often, Policy Matters is one of the sole advocates in the Joint Budget Committee hearing room. Policy Matters spends 24-7 at the JBC and this allows us to provide another level of lobbying service. Not only is Policy Matters a trusted source of reliable and strategic information, but JBC members also consider the Policy Matters team as confidants and friends.
